Wood as a raw material or working surface has emerged as the cornerstone of Ricky’s practice. Through persistent experimentation he is continually developing a variety of techniques that allow him to engage with the grain, knots and natural forming patterns to create work and allow each piece to evolve in response to the qualities of the natural material. While wood remains a constant, he draws on a variety approaches and mediums (painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and film) to not only produce work but develop ideas and concepts.

In 2010 Ricky left his role as a full time teacher (Education Queensland) and returned to university to pursue a carrier in the Arts. In 2011 he completed a Bachelor of creative Industries with first class Honours. 2011/2012 has seen him work in a variety of arts based roles and projects with James Cook University, Education Queensland and KickArts.
